Eleanor Roosevelt Prayer

Our Father, who has set a restlessness in our hearts and made us all seekers after that which we can never fully find, forbid us to be satisfied with what we make of life.

Draw us from base content and set our eyes on far-off goals.

Keep us at tasks too hard for us that we may be driven to Thee for strength.

Deliver us from fretfulness and self-pitying; make us sure of the good we cannot see and of the hidden good in the world.

Open our eyes to simple beauty all around us and our hearts to the loveliness men hide from us because we do not try to understand them.

Save us from ourselves and show us a vision of a world made new.”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

Credibility??

“There are better ways to build your case than to speak with absolute certainty about what is currently happening. It immediately invalidates the work others are doing and questions your credibility.”

Clay Scroggins, How to Lead When You're Not in Charge: Leveraging Influence When You Lack Authority

My thoughts

Say what?? This trucker convoy seems to be fueling a cyclone of dissonance  attracting anyone who feels they've a grievance from any perspective taking the opportunity to speak louder and louder and fuel the noise and chaos.

I wonder when we'll realize that the louder the voice the less the credibility of the noise maker. Seems to me this particular protest is about noise and the distorting of issues than about addressing inequality.

But if I were the King of the Forest what would I do ... hmmm ... There is no doubt in my mind there is injustice, inequality and an epic lack of respect and communication happening. When I figure it out I'll let you all know! And in the meantime I'll keep reading and listening and trying not to invalidate others with my certainty.

Pusmi-Pullyu

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

Paulo Coelho

“I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason,” the yogi Krishnan told him. “Every event has a why and all adversity teaches us a lesson... Never regret your past. Accept it as the teacher that it is.”
Robin Sharma, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

My Thoughts:
Sometimes it is hard to know which way to go with a decision.... sometimes the outside influences make it hard to remember what the decision is about in the first place.
This thinking got me thinking about the Pushmi Pullyu from Doctor Doolittle and from there down a rabbit hole about Pushmi Pullyu politics

"A pushmi-pullyu has an advantage in combat: ''no matter which way you came toward him, he was always facing you.'' But the disadvantage is greater: he has difficulty deciding what kind of campaign to run."

Ubuntu

"When we want to give high praise to someone we say, “Yhu, u nobuntu”: Hey, so-and-so has ubuntu.”

Then you are generous, you are friendly and caring and compassionate"
Archbishop Desmond Tutu

“One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human.
Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation.
It speaks about our interconnectedness
You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality –
Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity.
We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another,
whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World.
When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu

A common story illustrating Ubuntu
An anthropologist showed a game to the children of an African tribe ...He placed a basket of delicious fruits near a tree trunk and told them: The first child to reach the tree will get the basket. When he gave them the start signal, he was surprised that they were walking together, holding hands until they reached the tree and shared the fruit! When he asked them why you did that when every one of you could get the basket only for him!

They answered with astonishment: 'Ubuntu.'
"That is, how can one of us be happy while the rest are miserable?" Ubuntu in their civilization means: (I am because we are). That tribe knows the secret of happiness that has been lost in all societies that transcend them and which consider themselves civilized societies ...!!

“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river.
We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.”
Desmond Tutu

Come On People Now - March 3rd 2022

 Come on, people now

Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Check out this

The words of music and youth speak powerfully to us of peace and appeal to our emotions but we carry on living our lives listening to songs and wishing for change without recognizing change can only start with us recognizing we are all in this world together, all responsible and all worthy of love and respect.
It is important to remember that our world view is a product of our culture, environment and upbringing.

If we judge we do not listen, if we do not listen we do not hear, if we do not hear each other nothing will change.

Russian people deserve compassion and understanding. They are as much victims as people in Ukraine.

Higher costs and less readily available consumer goods is a small price to pay compared to bombing and destruction. Let us not distract ourselves from what suffering really is.

Sending prayers and love to people suffering every where.

  • Love is but a song to sing
    Fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
    Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

Some may come and some may go
    We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
    Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
    Fading in the grass

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

If you hear the song I sing
    You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
    All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
    It's there at your command

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

    Come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now

I said, come on people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another
    Right now
