Expanding Point of View, Henry Kimsey-House

“It is only through dialogue, deep listening, and passionate disagreement that we find our way to something larger than a singular and isolated point of view.”
Henry Kimsey-House
Co-Active Leadership: Five Ways to Lead

Henry is a remarkable hero. I had the good fortune to attend a leadership program that he co-developed and led in a retreat north of San Francisco.  This experience began to open my eyes to a larger world where assumptions are constraints and curiousity is a key. I'm learning to recognize that my deepest fears are as much illusions as my convictions and it is exhilarating to peek out and see what is there beyond this limited and judgmental perspective. I still passionately dislike disagreements and yet I appreciate them as I recognize they can lead to larger understanding and deeper questions. (Though I still want to be right lol it is when I let go of that long enough to remember learning is more useful than being right that I can really listen) The listening tools from that program are some of the greatest gifts Henry (and Laura) shared with us.

Einstein explains it in his inimitable style "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one" and "To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science."

Today is not Thursday, I missed Thursday this week. I'm not sure where it went...
Cheers
Jeanne
